Fingerless PPF Installation

If you clicked on this article expecting to hear about a hands-free PPF installation, I apologize. As things stand, I'm afraid that technology is still quite a few years away. However, if you want to learn more about how to avoid pesky little folds called "fingers" in the course of your installation, then you've come to the right place.

First things first, let's talk about what fingers actually are and how they are formed. As you can see in the picture, there is a narrow hollow between the film and the surface it's being applied on to. This shape and size of this gap is curiously similar to, say, an average person's little finger. You see where I'm going with this, right?

Now fingers are generally formed when paint protection film is applied to curved surfaces, and the reason for that is because there is usually more stretch needed in order for the film to lie flat when compared to an installation on a more level surface. The higher the inflection, the more the film will need to be extended. The problem arises when the film is not, or cannot be stretched enough to hug the edges around the surface it rests on.

When installing films like OnerPro Nexus+, this issue is easily fixed. All you'll have to do is to pick up the film, pull a little harder and you're good to go. The real trouble comes when the film you are applying is either too brittle or too rigid to be stretched to the level it needs to be at. In that case, you will either need to tread very lightly and soften the film with the help of steamers and heat guns (which equals more man-hours) or risk breaking the film and wasting the material.

That is why it's essential to test your film thoroughly before proceeding with the installation. From thickness, tensile strength, to self-healing abilities, each film is unique and performs differently during installation. If you're looking for a paint protection film that is both highly durable and easy to install, why not give OnerPro a try? Our films have gone through extensive testings to ensure that they can be maneuvered with ease during the installation process. OnerPro also provide training sessions to our certified installers so that you'll be ready to tackle any issues you might have.
